Fencers in the News

We take pride in the fact that all of our fencers are from different majors and have a great number of things to bring to the table in the club, at the university and in the community. Check out the things that they have been doing!

Honors Day 2014

Honors Day is a time where the University likes to celebrate its students scholarly achievement and service to the school by inducting them into various Honors Societies.

 

This year Andrew Barr, Carmen Cano, Michael Herman, Jay Montgomery and Joe Sponseller were inducted into Honors Societies for their hard work. Lauren Rose was also recognized at Honors Day for maintaining a 4.0 GPA throughout the entire year!

SAE Aero Design East Competition

Rebekah Douglass and the ONU chapter of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics placed 16th out of 42 teams at the SAE Aero Design East Competition in Georgia. The students had to build an airplane for the competition. The flight goal of the competition was to successfully lift and fly the maximum weight possible in the airplane while adhering to certain flight-mission requirements.

Student Comprehensive Exhibit 2014

This year was the first Art and Design Student Comprehensive Exhibit. Freshman Lauren Rose not only had her work accepted into the exhibit, but her portrait won 2nd place in the 2D art category!

Zingerman's Marketing Secrets Conference

In April of 2014, Carmen Cano and another Advertising Design student went to the Zingerman's Marketing Secrets Conference in Michigan. The conference was designed to share tips with businesses and students by using examples from the marketing strategy that Zingerman's uses.

United States Institute of Theatre Technology Conference

In March of 2014, Jacob Novak along with 10 other students went to the United States Institute of Theatre Technology Conference in Texas. While there, Jacob competed in the Rosebrand Action Design Competition. The competition had teams create a themed design, from concept to execution, in just 3.5 hours, in a 100 square foot "show floor" booth space.

It was 50 years ago today!

In January, Carmen Cano presented a project she had done in a design class at an international scholarly conference devoted to the life, work, influence, and artistry of The Beatles.
